METALLICA, JOURNEY Tour News

Not a huge bulletin but a couple of interesting note nonetheless:

-- METALLICA have been working closely with Nocturne Productions (the concert production company owned by JOURNEY guitarist Neal Schon and ex-manager Herbie Herbert) on developing a concert first. The band will go down as the first rock group to incorporate High Definition technology into their show. The production is being touted as the most elaborate and
advanced in the band's career. It will include the usual pyro and lighting, but the centerpiece of the stage will be two massive HD screens on either side of the stage. The tour will begin in arenas before making its way into stadiums in the U.S. next year. Look for a press release regarding the tour within the next four weeks.

-- JOURNEY continue to post impressive numbers on their current tour with HEART and CHEAP TRICK. In the state of Texas alone the tour moved nearly 50,000 tickets in three cities (San Antonio, Houston and Dallas).

Big BILLY IDOL Update

Got an e-mail not too long ago asking for a quick update on Billy Idol, so here goes:

For the first time in a while there is a lot of activity and positive news in the Idol camp.

His last album, Devils Playground, was among his best work and yet thanks to Sanctuary Records
went nowhere. Steve Stevens stated in a few interviews that near the end of the tour morale was low and he wasn't sure when or if Billy would record a "next" record.

Well there definitely will be a next record. I'm very happy to report that Billy has been resigned by
EMI and has been working hard on a new album, produced by Josh Abraham. Part of EMI's plan
to relaunch Idol on the charts was the release of the Idolize Yourself compilation, and to include
two songs from Idol's forthcoming studio effort ("John Wayne" and "New Future Weapon") on the set.

The material, being composed by Billy, Steve and Brian Tichy, is said to be a throwback to the classic Idol sound, with the debut LP, Rebel Yell and Whiplash Smile being used as a point of reference.

An early 2009 release is being reported by EMI, with a world tour set to launch in the U.S. in the Spring.

JOURNEY/HEART/CHEAP TRICK Tour Update

Just wanted to give everyone an early update on the Journey/Heart/Cheap Trick tour. According to my source two of the first three shows of the tour have sold out. Details are listed below. Other markets reporting strong to near sold-out sales are Raleigh, Atlanta (first night is sold out), Oklahoma City, Virginia Beach, Detroit, Indy and St. Louis and Mountain View. I was told that LiveNation are expecting at least 60% of the shows to sell out based on walkup sales (which is exactly how so Def Leppard/Journey sold out so many shows two summers ago).

As for show length, it breaks down as such:
Cheap Trick - 50 min.
Heart - 65 min.
Journey - 115 min.

Early reports:

7/9 Englewood, CO
Fiddler's Green
Attendance: 18,000
Capacity: 18,500

7/11 West Valley City, UT
USANA Amphitheatre
Attendance: 20,000
Capacity: 20,000

Major FLEETWOOD MAC Update

I'm pleased to bring everyone quite possibly the biggest story I've broken all year. After endless speculation and "rumors" (sorry, I couldn't resist) Fleetwood Mac are reuniting in 2009 for an album and tour they are remaining mum on. But that's what I'm here for, isn't it?

In June, Stevie Nicks told a newspaper that the Mac would be regrouping, sans-Christine McVie, for a series of recording sessions in October and would be in full-on tour rehearsals by February with U.S. dates to follow in the Spring. It has taken me several weeks, but here's what I have amassed from my sources.

* The "new album" is in fact a new compilation album that will feature several new tracks. Interestingly enough, one of the conditions for Stevie recording new Fleetwood Mac music was that Lindsey not be named primary producer. An outside collaborator, rumored to be John Shanks or Chris Lord-Alge, is being brought in to "even things up".

* The tour is indeed a "farewell tour" and could last up to two years with a blowout finale being planned. The ideas and expectations for this tour are big amongst organizers with one idea being that the finale will take place at either Wembley Stadium (or Twickingham Stadium) in London, or New York City's iconic Central Park.

* Fleetwood Mac will be performing Christine McVie-sung material on the upcoming tour, with Lindsey and Stevie handling vocal duties on her songs.

* The tour will kick off in the U.S. next Spring with a European tour of arenas and some stadiums
to follow. The group are already being mentioned for next year's Heiniken Jammin' Festival in Italy.
The trek will encompass several U.S. legs, at least one major European leg, a trip to Australia, and there is the possibility of the group returning to Japan for the first time with Stevie and Lindsey since 1979.

* While Sheryl Crow will be participating in the recording the new Mac tunes, she will not be made
a member of the band, contrary to what she announced to the public earlier this year. The first set
of U.S. shows will, however, be a Fleetwood Mac/Sheryl Crow double-bill. Crow is reportedly set on
opening for the group for the duration of the tour, including all overseas legs.

* A lot of money is being put into this and the band are reportedly shopping their name around to both LiveNation and AEG Live for the farewell tour, and any one-offs that will follow.

ALL OF THIS, is to be taken with a grain of salt until confirmed. But do know that unless it looks like
even semi-wet concrete...I don't share it.

KISS: New CD Release Info + More!

A month ago I reported that a new KISS compilation album was in the works. I can now confirm that on August 24 the new compilation will be released...in Japan. Kissology - Best KISS will be released throughout Japan on August 24 via DefStar Records, a subsidiary of Sony/BMG. While a specific tracklisting isn't available, the album will feature the recently re-recorded classics KISS completed in the studio earlier this year. The first few thousand copies of Kissology - Best Kiss will also come with a bonus DVD of the April 2, 1977 show at Nippon Budokan taken from Kissology Vol. 1. The disc can be pre-ordered at CD Japan at this link: http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/detailview.html?KEY=DFCP-56

The next obvious question becomes, will this see release in the U.S.? The answer is a resounding yes. I am hearing several different stories about how KISS will choose to release it, and when. When I get something concrete, it will be be posted here as always. Stay tuned...

KISS Update

The world of KISS is, and always will be a crazy and unpredictable one. Plans change more often than one could imagine and once again, KISS have changed their gameplan.

As the very successful Alive/35 European Tour comes to an end, the band have now set their sights on other parts of the world. The information I have been getting as of late on what comes next is conflicting at best. I'll spare you the specifics, but here's the important stuff:

* In two different interviews conducted this past week, Gene acknowledged the band would playing concerts until the end of October.
* The groundwork is already being laid out for KISS' return visit to Europe next summer. Dates could surface as soon as late October.
* A full-scale Asian tour is being discussed for January 2009 or sooner.
* The band have been offered the headlining slot at a major South American rock festival that is held each spring.
* KISS have seen the surprise success that Journey has had with their latest album, the Wal-Mart only release Generations. The latest word as of a month ago was that KISS were planning to release their re-recordings on iTunes. While that may still happen, the scope of the re-recordings release as indeed changed.
* KISS are indeed in talks with LiveNation about a full-scale U.S. tour. It was originally said to be taking place in the Fall, but may be pushed back to early 2009 since the touring market was oversaturated with rock shows this summer. Gene in particular is extremely
eager to get the band on the road in America, so it may just happen after all.

There is a lot more information out there but until I get something concrete, I'll hold back. As always, stay tuned for more as it develops...

Exclusive: KISS In Talks To Tour Europe In 2009

First off, let me say that I have had personal knowledge about this for a few weeks, but as of this afternoon I can confirm that KISS are indeed in talks with promoters about returning to Europe next year. The jaunt, planned for summer, would see KISS focusing on festivals, return visits to the strongest markets on this current tour, and smaller cities they are missing in 2008. Dates are said to begin trickling out in as early as October.

More as I get it...

DEF LEPPARD/WHITESNAKE To Pick Tour Again In Fall

Not quite on our side of things, but DEF LEPPARD and WHITESNAKE will be picking their co-headline tour up again, this time in Asia. Several dates are being planned outside of the two confirmed shows at Budokan in Tokyo. If promoters can get the proper clearences, the rest of Asia is being looked at to host shows (Hong Kong for example). This is being worked on currently. DEF LEPPARD will make up their postponed Indian dates on this leg, and will tour arenas in Australia and New Zealand this November to cap things off, though it is unclear if those shows will be with WHITESNAKE since David Coverdale and crew just toured Oz a matter of weeks ago.

DEF LEPPARD / WHITESNAKE tour dates:

10/17 - Mumbai, IND - MMRDA
10/19 - Bangalore, IND - Palace
10/23 - Tokyo, JPN - Nippon Budokan
10/24 - Tokyo, JPN - Nippon Budokan

It's Official: DEF LEPPARD Debut At No. 6 On BILLBOARD 200

As of this afternoon thr numbers are in and DEF LEPPARD's Songs From The Sparkle Lounge has debut at No. 6 on this week's Billboard 200. Sparkle Lounge sold 54,402 to land at 6, a tough number to swallow considering DEF LEPPARD's labelmates THE ROOTS debuted at No. 5 with Rising Down's sales of 54,710. Literally 308 units seperated the two releases.

DEF LEPPARD will resume their U.S. tour in early August with BILLY IDOL in support. Many confirmed dates for the jaunt have been postponed, but will be made up before year's end.

KISS Rehearsal Report

One of my most trusted sources has informed me of a few new developments at KISS' full band rehearsals last week in Los Angeles.

Alive! was indeed played in its entirety at one of the rehearsals along with an encore set of hits. The most interesting development is that KISS have worked up a version of "Crazy, Crazy Nights" for the tour and are rumored to be throwing it into the set, possibly opening night, this Friday at Arena Oberhausen. It is also worth noting that KISS will be playing several deep album cuts, most never performed live, sporadically throughout the tour.

I can also confirm that the band have been working on a couple of new stage effects for the tour, most notably during the Tommy Thayer guitar solo. "Shock Me" will be a regular part of the set, and apparently Tommy is doing something during his solo that "has never been done by KISS before" according to my source. If all goes well during a full production rehearsal in Germany on Thursday evening, this will become a regular part of the KISS show.

Stay tuned for more as I get it...

DEF LEPPARD To Debut At No. 6 On BILLBOARD 200

According to current data, DEF LEPPARD's Songs From The Sparkle Lounge sold far better than anticipated over the weekend. The group were projected to make a No. 9 splash on the chart with sales of 45-50K, but things changed over the weekend and Sparkle Lounge is projected to debut at No. 6 with sales of 55,000 copies.

This would mark Def Leppard's biggest chart success since Retro Active spent a lone week at No. 9 in 1993.

Meanwhile, as previously reported here, "C'mon C'mon" will be serviced to radio in a month's time to hype the band's U.S. tour, which is itself a bit in jeopardy. A video for the song will be commissioned, but no further details are available as of now.

DEF LEPPARD Postpone U.S. Tour Dates

DEF LEPPARD have confirmed that the previously announced U.S. tour has been scrapped for the time being. Their management is saying the details were released prematurely but there is that pesky rumor that the band are wanting ailing vocalist Joe Elliott some extra time to recover.

Furthermore, STYX and FOREIGNER are no longer being advertised for the Canadian shows. The Leps have also been unable to snag a proper support act (or acts) for this run of secondary markets which is said to lead into a major market arena tour this Fall. More as it develops. The remaining dates are listed below:

7/30 - Hidalgo, TX - Dodge Arena *Postponed
8/01 - Nashville, TN - Sommet Center *Postponed
8/02 - Pelham, AL - Verizon *Postponed

Major KISS Rumor

Just spoke to two of my most trusted sources who have informed me that KISS are planning a return to the U.S. and Canada in August. Plans are being made for the band to perform a series of shows in North America for the first time since the Rock The Nation Tour ended in 2004 (last summer's Hit N Run Tour not withstanding). There is no word on exact cities, dates or venues, but it worth noting that band's camp have looked into dates at venues in Los Angeles and British Columbia in the last few weeks.

CINDER ROAD, who will be supporting KISS in Europe (alongside LIT), are strongly rumored to be taking part in the second phase of KISS' Alive/35 Tour. When contacted, their camp would only confirm that the group will be on tour with KISS through June 28 and would be launching a U.S. tour in "the late summer".

CINDERELLA/WARRANT: Tour News, Dallas, L.A. & East Coast Update

CINDERELLA and WARRANT have finally confirmed dates for their upcoming summer tour. The dates are listed below (both "officially announced" dates and ones I have personally confirmed).

The tour was originally planned to play 40 shows in the U.S. but due to the high asking price of the tour, and over saturation of rock tours this summer, I can confirm that the CINDERELLA/WARRANT package will only play 24-26 of the planned 40 shows. The two bands will be padding out the open dates on their itineraries with headlining shows, as previously reported here. CINDERELLA are also planning to stay on the road until September according to my sources, while JANI LANE of WARRANT is already booking solo shows for late August.

The shows in Dallas, San Antonio and Los Angeles have yet to find a venue even though CINDERELLA announced the gig would take place on July 4 at Gibson Amphitheater. As of this afternoon, Gibson Amphitheater has yet to confirm the date but Nokia L.A. Live have confirmed they were contacted about hosting the show. I was also told by a trusted source that the Dallas, Atlantic City and Mertyle Beach shows have yet to be confirmed because HOB Concerts is concerned that the shows in their House Of Blues venues in these cities will not be profitable, mainly due to the $100K asking price for the tour. Regardless the entire picture will be extremely clear in the coming days, and per the usual, any and all information I recieve will be shared right here.

More CINDERELLA/WARRANT Dates, Onsales

The CINDERELLA/WARRANT tour is finally beginning to take shape. The following is an updated list of dates and onsales. Look for an official announcement tomorrow (or Monday at the latest). As of this evening the Pompano Beach onsale has been postponed until next weekend so it won't compete too heavily with the Orlando and Tampa dates. The July 5 show in Las Vegas was originally scheduled to be CINDERELLA only, but those plans have changed and Sin City will get the full tour. Furthermore, the planned August 9th show at Leach Amphitheatre in Oshkosh, WI is off the schedule but could be made up near the end of the tour. Meanwhile the planned July 5 show has yet to be confirmed, but Nokia L.A. Live is now said to be in the running for the gig.

One thing that seems to be common with this tour is the asking price. Promoters in two major cities noted that they ready to confirm the date, but have yet to reach a financial agreement with tour organizers. Both expressed to me they will work until eleventh hour to make sure the show goes on since both have blocked off dates on their respective schedules for the event.

I can also confirm this evening that CINDERELLA will be announcing several headlining shows both ahead of, during, and after the package tour.

The following are dates either confirmed officially or ones that I have personally confirmed:

CINDERELLA/WARRANT with THE LYNCH MOB, LYNHAM:
6/26 - Walker, MN - Northern Lights Casino (CINDERELLA only)
6/27 - Walker, MN - Northern Lights Casino (CINDERELLA only)
7/03 - Alpine, CA - Viejas Concerts In The Park (onsale 5/2)
7/05 - Las Vegas, NV - Sunset Station Casino (onsale 5/10)
7/11 - Amarillo, TX - Aztec Music Hall
7/12 - Pryor, OK - Rocklahoma
7/13 - Wichita Falls, TX - Kay Yeagar Coliseum (onsale 5/3)
7/17 - Houston, TX - Verizon Wireless Theater
7/19 - Bonner Springs, KS - Capitol Federal Park at Sandstone
7/20 - Tinley Park (Chicago), IL - FMB Amphitheatre (onsale 5/3)
7/21 - Clarkston, MI - DTE Energy Music Theatre
7/25 - Tampa, FL - St. Pete Times Froum
7/26 - Pompano Beach, FL - Pompano Beach Amphitheatre (onsale 5/10)
7/27 - Orlando, FL - Hard Rock Live (onsale 5/3)
8/01 - Clearfield, PA - Clearfield County Fair
8/10 - Des Moines, IA - Iowa State Fair (w/NIGHT RANGER)

DEF LEPPARD To Debut In U.S. Top 10, Next Single Info

DEF LEPPARD's new album, Songs From The Sparkle Lounge, is doing much better than expected. Early estimates have the album selling over 50,000 copies for a debut in the lower Top 10 on next week's Billboard 200. A huge part in this was the band's Dancing With Stars performance (although lip-synched albeit) last night.

If indeed Sparkle Lounge can keep its course, it will become the Leps' first studio album since Andrenalize (which spent several weeks at No. 1) to reach the Top 10. DEF LEPPARD last saw Top 10 glory in the summer of 2005 when Rock Of Ages: The Definitive Collection debuted at No. 10, and before that Retro Active spent a week at No. 9 in 1993.

It has also been confirmed that the track "C'Mon C'Mon" will be sent to U.S. radio in June to promote the band's summer tour dates.

CINDERELLA/WARRANT: Major Update!

Dates are finally beginning to surface for the seemingly shrouded in secrecy Cinderella/Warrant tour. The Minnesota date was literally confirmed this morning. Not much is known about the tour since one of many early itineraries was leaked online two weeks ago. With these dates surfacing, an official announcement isn't far off. I'd look for something within the next 1 1/2 weeks.

The following are dates either confirmed officially or ones that I have personally confirmed:

CINDERELLA/WARRANT with THE LYNCH MOB, LYNHAM:

6/26 - Walker, MN - Northern Lights Casino (CINDERELLA only)
6/27 - Walker, MN - Northern Lights Casino (CINDERELLA only)
7/11 - Amarillo, TX - Aztec Music Hall
7/12 - Pryor, OK - Rocklahoma
7/13 - Wichita Falls, TX - Kay Yeagar Coliseum (onsale 5/3)
7/17 - Houston, TX - Verizon Wireless Theater (Hold Date)
7/19 - Bonner Springs, KS - Capitol Federal Park at Sandstone
7/20 - Tinley Park (Chicago), IL - FMB Amphitheatre (onsale 5/3)
7/21 - Clarkston, MI - DTE Energy Music Theatre
7/25 - Tampa, FL - St. Pete Times Froum
7/26 - Pompano Beach, FL - Pompano Beach Amphitheatre (onsale 5/3)
7/27 - Orlando, FL - Hard Rock Live (onsale 5/3)
8/01 - Clearfield, PA - Clearfield County Fair
8/10 - Des Moines, IA - Iowa State Fair (w/NIGHT RANGER)

Meanwhile WARRANT have lined up the following warmup dates:

5/17 - Nashville, TN - Wildhorse Saloon (tickets onsale now)
5/18 - Walker, MN - Northern Lights Casino (tickets onsale now)

Ticket information for the Minnesota shows can be found here. Tickets range from $30-37.50 for both bands' performances.

DEF LEPPARD, WHITESNAKE On Next Week's BILLBOARD 200

Been getting a lot of questions about where DEF LEPPARD and WHITESNAKE's new albums will drop on next week's BILLBOARD 200.

DEF LEPPARD'S Songs From The Sparkle Lounge (uMe) has shipped 65,652 units in its first week. Early numbers are promising, but quite frankly Universal have screwed the Leps over again, releasing Sparkle Lounge in the most competitve debut week the charts have seen this year. Def Leppard are competing against Ashlee Simpson's Bittersweet World and Madonna's Hard Candy, along with new releases from Lil' Mama, Steve Winwood, Robyn, Jimmy Eat World, Lyfe Jennings and The Roots. Look for Def Leppard to once again be relegated to the lower end of the Top 20, unless their appearences on Dancing With The Stars and Jimmy Kimmel Live! attract listeners.

WHITENSNAKE's Good To Be Bad is expected to appear on the Top Independent Albums Chart as well as the (hopefully) the bottom portion of the Top 100. The band is getting some decent press and their best reviews in over fifteen years for Good To Be Bad. At the very least, they'll see their best U.S. chart week since Slip Of The Tounge.

METAL MASTERS To Add Dates

I've just been informed that two more dates will be added to the METAL MASTERS TOUR featuring JUDAS PRIEST/HEAVEN & HELL/MOTORHEAD/TESTAMENT. One of which is to be the tour's finale on September 1 at The Pearl in Las Vegas, NV. The other show is said to be at Coors Amphitheatre near Denver on August 26. There is also the strong possibility that MOTORHEAD/TESTAMENT will book a show in the Denver area if these plans fall through.

More info as it becomes available...

No KISS At ROCKLAHOMA, U.S. Tour Ahead

There has been a lot of talk on the web about KISS appearing at Rocklahoma on Sunday night. The festival organizers are scrambling to fill the Sunday slot, preferably with a major name. Catch The Fever were in negotiations with KISS, and have been for quite some time (KISS were offered the festival some months ago but declined). Look for an official announcement within the next two weeks but my sources tell me KISS has declined again.

More Info On JP/H&H Tour

The upcoming tour featuring JUDAS PRIEST/HEAVEN & HELL/MOTORHEAD/TESTAMENT is beginning to take shape. Listed below is the FULL itinerary.

I can exclusively reveal the name of the trek is The Metal Masters Tour and will be headlined by PRIEST, with H&H in the "co-headlining" slot. Top tickets in most markets will be $125, bottom ticket will be around $25. There are still a ton of gaps in the tour schedule with more shows being added, but this is going to be a very brief run that sadly miss a lot of cities. Be prepared to travel!

DEF LEPPARD Summer Tour Dates, Info

The rescheduled dates in Grand Rapids & Detroit for August 15 & 23 respctively are being listed as DEF LEPPARD/STYX/REO SPEEDWAGON. It is unclear whether or not this will be the lineup for the new dates. However, DEF LEPPARD have confirmed plans for a Canadaian tour with STYX and FOREIGNER. Initial dates are listed below.

There is still no word on DEF LEPPARD's plans beyond Canada, other than their camp is actively booking U.S. shows. The rumor of a DEF LEPPARD/WHITESNAKE/NIGHT RANGER tour (that seemed likely at one point) has cooled off substantially now that NIGHT RANGER have opted to play their own headlining dates throughout the Summer. WHITESNAKE are still rumored to be onboard.

8/06 - Hamilton, ON, CAN - Copps Coliseum (rescheduled from 4/13)
8/09 - Corner Brook, NL, CAN - Pepsi Centre

Tickets for the JUDAS PRIEST show in Uncasville, CT at Mohegan Sun Arena will go onsale this Friday (4/25) at 10:00 AM EST. Support will come from TESTAMENT.

Furthermore, tonight there is new information that suggest JUDAS PRIEST will indeed be headlining the upcoming tour featuring the band alongside HEAVEN & HELL, MOTORHEAD and TESTAMENT. I was also informed that both bands are considering "flip-flopping" headlining slots at each show, but tour organizers are pushing for JUDAS PRIEST to close.

The current list of dates is listed below. This is the same itinerary "borrowed" by BLABBERMOUTH earlier this week. The last three shows on the itinerary are unconfirmed with the exception of the Dallas date (which I personally have confirmed):

DEF LEPPARD U.S. TOUR UPDATE

DEF LEPPARD have postponed two more concerts on their current North American tour. The shows in Grand Rapids and Detroit have been "postponed until further notice" according to the LEPPARD camp. I can reveal that the band have already rescheduled the shows for August 15 and August 23, respectively.

The August 15 show is now being strongly rumored to be the launch of their Summer U.S. tour, said to be with NIGHT RANGER and one other act (possibly WHITESNAKE or TESLA).

DEF LEPPARD did confirm earlier in the week that their European tour with WHITESNAKE will conclude on July 17 in Nottingham, UK as planned. Promoters have been surprised with the brisk sales of many of the gigs and wanted to extend the tour through August 2 in Lisbon, Portugal. The plan for LEPPARD was solely based on the reception of their upcoming album in America. If the album met a lukewarm reception, the LEPS would stay in Europe before moving onto Japan and Australia. Now that "Nine Lives" is gaining airplay and climbing the RADIO & RECORDS rock chart, the band are aggressively booking shows in the U.S. as we speak. The aforementioned Lisbon date will go on as planned with WHITESNAKE only.

KISS Tour News

KISS guitarist Tommy Thayer revealed earlier this week that the band will be playing the Alive! album in its entirety, alongisde some "obscure songs never played live before" on their upcoming European tour (a fact I posted on Sludge last month). Some of the "obscure songs" Tommy went on to mention include "Room Service", which Thayer is said to be very gung-ho about. I was told about two other songs being seriously considered for the tour, but they seem so bizarre I'm just not sure if this is legitimate information, or some fan's pipe dream. Which two? One comes off of Dynasty, the other was a major hit for the band in Europe in the late 1980's. I was also given a bit of information about KISS possibly touring with THE SCORPIONS (which appears to be false).
